The Manville Corporation said it had settled its insurance disputes with the Columbia Casualty Company and the Continental Casualty Company, both units of the CNA Financial Corporation of Chicago. The two carriers, the last remaining defendants in insurance litigation pending in San Francisco, had agreed to pay a total of $38.5 million, Manville said. It also said that the confirmation hearing in New York on its plan for reorganization had been delayed until noon Tuesday by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

The Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation said its board had approved a restructuring that would create a new holding company to be controlled by the British investor Alan Clore, Kaiser's largest shareholder. Shares in the existing company will be exchanged for shares in the new entity and current Kaiser management will remain in place. If the agreement is approved by Kaiser's shareholders, Mr. Clore, who holds a 30 percent stake, will be entitled to elect a majority of the new entity's 14 directors.
