THE possibilities in adapting stage plays for microphone presentation were never better illustrated than in the recent ethereal production of Jerome Kern's "Show Boat." It proved beyond doubt that to do a good job an hour in needed, whereas several attempts to condense "Show Boat" and other stage successes into half-hour presentations were not as effective.

Two records for outboard motor boats were announced yesterday by the National Outboard Racing Commission. They were at 35.4 miles an hour for 5 miles in competition in a Class E runabout, made at Stockton, Cal., on May 28, by L.E. Heckendorf, a professional, and another of 36.2 miles at the same distance, also in a Class E runabout at Stockton, by H.B. Purviance, an amateur.

Trading on the Stock Exchange was slightly more active yesterday than on the previous Saturday, but trading was lacking in color and interest. Except for the week-end business reports, which were altogether cheerful, there was little to stimulate the share market.

Wall Street enjoyed yesterday what was, by comparison with most other days of the last two or three months, a restful interlude. The turnover on the Stock Exchange fell to a mere 3,314,000 shares. This was not dull business by any means, but gave the brokers a chance to catch their breath.
